Asset owners and maintenance teams are often shown colourful maps and confident labels. The harder questions arrive afterwards: Is the image good enough? Is the location right? Could this be a reflection? What should a technician do next?

Our guides follow that decision chain. We explain capture quality, candidate defects, thermal interpretation and maintenance handoffs without promising guaranteed detection accuracy, production gains or savings.

Source hierarchy

We prioritise relevant standards, public technical reports and primary institutional guidance. References include the International Electrotechnical Commission, IEA Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme, NREL, EASA and national aviation authorities. A citation supports the point for which it is used; it does not imply that its publisher endorses this website.

Standards may be revised and full texts may require purchase. Check the current edition and its applicability to your project. Our summaries do not reproduce every requirement or replace competent professional interpretation.

What we separate

• Observation: what an image or record directly shows.
• Interpretation: a possible explanation of that observation.
• Uncertainty: what the available evidence cannot settle.
• Action: a proportionate next step under the site’s procedures.

Illustrations and examples

The vector scenes explain workflows rather than documenting particular plants. Every synthetic thermal view is marked schematic. Colours, patterns and example priority categories are explanatory, not measured temperatures, equipment certifications or universal intervention thresholds.
