Start with what the evidence can establish, then decide what needs a closer look.
Can AI confirm a defective module?
Not from an image label alone. Confirmation may require human review, repeat imagery, electrical testing or an appropriate on-site investigation. Read the validation guide for the distinction between an observation and a diagnosis.
Do we need visible and thermal images?
They are complementary. Visible images provide surface and location context; thermal images show temperature patterns under the capture conditions. Pair them with operational records rather than expecting either image type to answer every question.
Does every hot spot require replacement?
No. Check the likely cause, safety context and verification evidence before choosing monitoring, cleaning, testing, repair or replacement. A possible safety issue should follow the site’s escalation procedure.
Can an ordinary thermal screenshot support temperature analysis?
A rendered screenshot may not retain radiometric information. Keep the original radiometric file and camera settings for quantitative review. Colour contrast alone does not provide a calibrated measurement.
What causes false positives?
Shade, reflections, soiling, blur, mapping errors and unfamiliar image conditions can resemble defect patterns. Review original images and inspect a sample of unflagged data to look for missed findings as well.
Is there one best time to fly every site?
No. Plan around the inspection purpose, suitable irradiance and weather, plant state, viewing geometry, airspace and site rules. Consult the applicable standard and a competent operator rather than using a universal flight recipe.
Can a thermal image prove annual energy loss?
Not by itself. An impact estimate needs appropriate operational data, a defensible method and stated assumptions. Do not equate a temperature difference directly with a savings figure.
What belongs in a maintenance handoff?
Include asset and finding identifiers, original evidence, capture conditions, review reasoning, uncertainty, the authorised task and closure requirements. The maintenance guide explains how these support prioritisation.
